Today we went for distributing ration. We have done so a few times in the last three weeks.
The situation here seems to be something like the following:
Most of the ‘houses’ (slums and huts) are now occupied. Many have returned.
Most of the dwellings today were open with three or four people hanging around – jobless. But one out of four who share a room have started work.
Today’s rounds showed up security guards (mostly employed), construction workers (marginally employed), plumbers (nearly all unemployed as no one allows them to come and repair they say), housemaids (some still unemployed and most under employed with only one or two houses), some auto drivers (with much less earning now)
They were happy to take the coupons and go to the wholesaler to redeem them.
Small kids and even teenagers who are in school and inter-college are without schooling. Simply loafing about. No online class facility for them. If anyone has a suggestion or connection in Bangalore, please send it across, we can coordinate and connect, but cannot take charge of education.
Today’s rounds were for people mostly from Odisha. So migrants are back.
Thanks once again for your generous and kind support.
